GenusPlus Group Ltd (ASX: GNP) is a leading Australian essential power and communications infrastructure provider, specialising in the design, construction, and maintenance of high-voltage transmission lines, substations, and network systems that underpin the nation’s energy and communications backbone.
With operations spanning every state and territory, GenusPlus enables customers to integrate new generation technologies — including renewable and battery-storage systems — into traditional networks, accelerating Australia’s shift toward a low-carbon economy.
In its latest announcement, the company confirmed it has been awarded three major contracts by Fortescue Metals Group as part of Fortescue’s Real Zero by 2030 decarbonisation strategy. The new projects will deliver critical transmission and power infrastructure to support the electrification of Fortescue’s Pilbara mining, rail, and port operations in Western Australia.
Under the newly awarded contracts, GenusPlus will deliver a suite of integrated power and electrification projects across Fortescue’s Pilbara operations. The scope includes the construction of 220-kilovolt overhead transmission-line infrastructure within the Solomon mine, a key power corridor supporting Fortescue’s expanding green-energy network; the design and construction of approximately 30 kilometres of overhead 33-kilovolt power-distribution infrastructure, incorporating more than 300 poles, conductors, and associated hardware; and the installation of two fast-charging stations and four pit-power facilities at the Eliwana and Flying Fish mine sites, enabling the transition of heavy mining fleets to electric and hybrid systems. The combined projects are valued at around $60 million, expected to employ about 80 personnel at peak activity, with site mobilisation commencing in October 2025 and construction scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Fortescue’s Real Zero program seeks to eliminate terrestrial emissions — spanning mining, rail, port, and non-process infrastructure — by 2030, through large-scale renewable-energy generation, electrification, and green-hydrogen development.
GenusPlus’s participation in these projects highlights its growing role in Australia’s energy-transition supply chain, delivering the physical grid infrastructure that connects renewable power sources with end-users across remote and industrial regions.
By combining electrical engineering expertise with communications-network integration, GenusPlus enables clients such as Fortescue, Rio Tinto, and government utilities to modernise their assets for real-time monitoring, automation, and energy efficiency — critical capabilities for decarbonised operations.
The Fortescue contracts follow several strategic wins for GenusPlus in the transmission and distribution (T&D) sector during 2025, reflecting strong demand for contractors capable of delivering turnkey, high-voltage infrastructure aligned with Australia’s renewable-energy rollout and the federal government’s Net Zero 2050 framework.
GenusPlus will deploy multidisciplinary teams encompassing design engineers, project managers, lineworkers, and commissioning specialists. The company’s in-house construction capability allows it to self-perform the majority of civil, electrical, and mechanical work, ensuring project efficiency and cost control.
The projects will be supported by GenusPlus’s existing Belmont (WA) operations base, with additional resources drawn from its network of regional depots across the Pilbara and Mid-West.
The company noted that its safety and quality management systems remain integral to delivery, with a focus on zero-harm operations and alignment with Fortescue’s stringent environmental and safety standards.
The award further consolidates GenusPlus’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading providers of end-to-end power infrastructure services, encompassing transmission and distribution networks, substation construction and battery energy systems, fixed and wireless communication networks, and real-time network management and control systems. Through its integrated business model, GenusPlus delivers scalable, efficient, and sustainable energy-network solutions that address the evolving needs of large mining, utility, and industrial clients. The company’s expertise in design–build–maintain services positions it strongly to capture opportunities emerging from the next phase of Australia’s renewable energy and electrification cycle, particularly in Western Australia, where major resources companies are accelerating investments in green power and decarbonisation infrastructure.
The awarding of these contracts highlights GenusPlus’ strategic position in the rapidly growing decarbonisation and electrification infrastructure market.
With governments and corporations across Australia pursuing net zero targets, the demand for transmission networks, renewable interconnections, and electric fleet infrastructure has surged. GenusPlus’ diversified service offering — spanning power transmission, substation engineering, battery systems, and communications networks — positions it as a key delivery partner for both mining and energy transition projects.
The company’s participation in Fortescue’s Real Zero initiative underscores the growing role of private contractors in enabling industrial decarbonisation, complementing national efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen grid resilience.
Beyond mining, GenusPlus continues to support utilities, renewable developers, and telecommunications providers with integrated network solutions. This includes the design and rollout of fixed and wireless communications infrastructure, critical for managing real-time energy data and control systems.
With the new Fortescue contracts secured, GenusPlus enters FY26 with a solid forward order book and a strengthened presence in the Pilbara region. The company’s involvement in high-profile renewable and electrification projects positions it well to capture future opportunities across the energy transition value chain.
As Australia accelerates investment in transmission networks, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and green industrial projects, GenusPlus’ proven execution record and multi-disciplinary expertise make it a trusted partner in the nation’s decarbonisation journey.
